BROADMEADOWS
The house at Broadmeadows is named after our co-foundress, St Maria Mazzarello. It was bought in 1999 to be the novitiate, i.e. a formation house where young women come to learn to live the vowed way of life of the Salesian Sisters. In 2012 the novitiate moved to Sydney and now the five sisters in the community work at 3 parishes, and 3 educational institutes.
Our Lady's, Craigieburn
Sr. Rochelle Lamb is music coordinator and facilitates the family-based sacramental programme at Our Lady's parish, Craigieburn. She leads the Fully Alive Choir for the Sunday Eucharist. With this choir Rochelle has recently produced a CD album of her own original songs for liturgical and prayer celebrations. The CD is entitled A New Tomorrow.
Salesian College, Sunbury
​Sr. Rochelle is also teaching part time at Salesian College, Sunbury. She is engaged in pastoral ministry, involving in liturgy, music and religious education.
Australian Catholic University, Melbourne Campus
Sr. Thuy-Linh Nguyen is a Lecturer at the Peter Faber Business School at the Australian Catholic University in Melbourne. She holds a doctoral degree in Computer Science from Monash University. Besides teaching and research work, she represents the Faculty in the Core Curriculum program, which is centred in Catholic Social Teaching, including community engagement service such as working as volunteers at various charitable and non-profit organisations.
Salesian Youth Club, St Margaret Mary's, North Brunswick
Working for and with the young is at the core of the vocation of every Salesian Sister, Brother and Priest. Together with Fr. Anthony Nguyen sdb, Sr. Thuy-Linh has founded the Salesian Youth Club (SYC) at St. Margaret Mary's, North Brunswick. The Club is a vibrant educational environment for children and young adults to develop themselves into good citizens and good Christians.
Thien An Education Centre, St Margaret Mary's, North Brunswick
Sr. Marguerite Nguyen is very involved in St Margaret Mary's parish, North Brunswick, especially with the Vietnamese community. She is Principal of the Thien An (God's Graces) Education Centre established in the parish in 2007 as a tutoring centre for the Vietnamese children in Brunswick and surrounds. These children are all from migrant families and need help with their studies. Marguerite has a band of volunteer tutors who teach English and Maths every Saturday of the term. All the tuition is free. On Sunday afternoons the children learn Vietnamese.
Parish Ministry, St Mark's Fawkner
Sr. Silvana Visentin is a volunteer at St Mark's Parish, Coburg, a northern suburb of Melbourne. She accompanies families in the Italian community in their joys and sorrows. Her visits and vibrant presence, particularly to the elderly, bring much joy to them and provide the much appreciated spiritual support.
Teaching, Centre for Adult Education Melbourne
Sr. Marguerite teaches Vietnamese language (part time) at the Centre for Adult Education (CAE) in Melbourne. She creatively uses the Salesian way of education to create a fun and interesting environment for her language students, who much appreciate her method as well as her dedication.
